QPR on Boxing Day

Boxing Day is a great English football tradition with games played regularly on this date.

QPR have played 93 times on Boxing Day and our record hasn't been great in recent years.

Our overall record is 24 wins, 27 draws and 42 defeats.

Our home record is better than away from home with 19 home wins and just 9 defeats at Loftus Road.

Away from home we've only won 5 games with 33 defeats.

This year we are away at Portsmouth who we last met on Boxing Day away in the 1997/98 season losing 3-1.

Rangers last away win on Boxing day was back in 1967 with a 1-0 win at Plymouth.

Since then we've had 23 away games drawing 7 and losing 16 of them.

We haven't scored away on Boxing Day since 2015 when Junior Hoilett scored in a 2-1 defeat at Ipswich.

Our last goal on Boxing Day anywhere was Nahki Wells in 2018 also against Ipswich in a 3-0 win.

We've only won 4 times on Boxing Day this century with wins in 2018 (Ipswich), 2010 (Swansea), 2009 (Bristol City) and 2002 (Wycombe)

Tony Ingham has played on the most games on Boxing Day with 10 appearances closely followed by Ian Gillard, Kevin Gallen and Alan Mcdonald with 9 appearances.

George Goddard has the most goals on Boxing Day with 4 followed by Conway Smith and Brian Bedford with 3 each and then 16 players have scored twice including the likes of Stan Bowles, Adel Taarabt, Kevin Gallen, Lee Cook, Don Givens and Dave Thomas.

We have had some great results on Boxing Day, few better than the Adel Taarabt show against Swansea in 2010.
